The United Nations Peacekeeping Welfare Department is dedicated to helping our peacekeeping men and women balance their professional duties and family responsibilities by allowing them to take reasonable paid or unpaid leave for family, medical, and rest reasons. Peacekeepers taking part in a variety of international missions are covered under this policy. Such duties include leaves of absence taken by members of the UN peacekeeping forces, including active duty, standby, or mission rotation, for training, periods of active field service, and emergency family leave, as well as transition terminal leaves.
Peacekeepers on extended field duty may elect to continue group benefits, counseling, and travel support for themselves and their immediate family members for the duration of the authorized leave period.
